A Local's Web Guide
Anyone who's struggled to find a locally based Web site on the popular Internet search engines can appreciate what Warren Roche and Robbie LeBlanc do with their spare time.
At www.NewOrleansWebSites.com, they created a directory of local Web sites after struggling to get the major search engines to recognize some of the clients of their Web design company, AbsolutelyNewOrleans.com. The site features more than *3,000 local listings categorized by industry.
"We list any site. We never charge for a listing," Roche says. "We honestly wanted this thing to be useful."
Roche blocks out sites with adult material or hate speech, but encourages others to submit new Web sites to the directory.
Roche and LeBlanc hope to eventually make some money off the site by selling banner ads. But ultimately, they say, they didn't create it to make a buck. "We felt like there should be (a local directory)," Roche says. "You know why? Because no one else was doing it."
